The Assignment

This webpage is an assignment in an online class I am taking.  It is designed to help me understand how to utilize the internet more effectively in my teaching.

Where I've Been

I was born in Brooklyn, New York but went to High School and College in California.  I feel equally comfortable on both coasts but do feel that New York City is my home.  I spend my summers in Europe with my wife.  We both enjoy traveling whenever we can.

My Life as an Educator

I started teaching science in Los Angeles in 1995.  Since then, I have taught in Brooklyn and now teach in Ardsley, New York.  Ardsley is a northern suburb of New York City.  I am excited to have been recently granted a “SmartBoard.”  This has been the biggest and most exciting physical change to my classroom since I started teaching.  When I was trained in using the SmartBoard it quickly became apparent that I’d enjoy using this new piece of technology.  I’m looking forward to seeing how much more I can get out of this new technology.

When I'm Not Working...

I’m usually off to the airport.  I’ve been to many cities throughout the US and Europe.  Because of my our love of travel, my wife and I have friends throughout the world.  Fortunately, the internet lets us keep in contact with all of them.  I enjoy music, dancing, movies, playing harmonica, and even an occasional video game.  Though I seem to have less and less time for those lately.

Web Sites I Like

My favorite website it probably youtube.  Whenever I’ve got a song stuck in my head, which is often, I’m happy to be able to search youtube to find a version of it.

Another fantastic, free music website is digitally imported which has everything from rap to salsa to techno to disco to classical piano songs.

I enjoy the concept of the wikipedia but understand that the accuracy of many of the pages is always in question.

My search engine of choice is google but I also love their map functions (both for driving and for seeing satellite photos of my favorite hangouts.)

I’m impressed with all that my school's website has so many links including many relevant to the district.  Technology is definitely a priority in my district.
